Not everyone is meant to be a truck driver trainer. Would you be able to have that responsibility? You must have these four qualities.
1. Be patient
Often times, new truck drivers come to you scared and confused. Truck driving is an entirely new lifestyle. Don't forget that feeling you first had. Be patient with all the questions your trainee may have and be ready to be honest. Your trainee trusts you completely. If you do not know the answer to his or her question. Tell them that.
2. Have knowledge
You will need to know how to explain details to a person who has never experienced many of these events. His or her questions may be about lifestyle or they could even be techinal terms.
3. Be OK with sharing personal space
You will be with your trainee for a certain amount of time or miles. You will spend large amounts of one-on-one time with them. You will need to be OK sharing your personal space.
4. Be honest
At the end of the training period, you will be rating your student. Be honest. Make sure before he or she is released that he or she truly understands his or her responsibilities as a truck driver.
