Can you find work right out of school?
You can find work driving professionally right out of school! However, not every company is willing to work with drivers new to the industry. Ask a recruiter immediately if they hire recent graduates. Even if a company hires directly out of school, many will require additional training with one of their professional driver instructors. This training can vary from a few weeks to more than a month, but will educate you in the industry to become an OTR (Over The Road) driver.

What is life like as an OTR driver?
Life as an OTR (Over The Road) driver is different than an everyday job. Each person and every company will be different. You might be away from home to start. Running different freight to different locations. There are many options out there for an OTR driver today. Remember, driving professionally is more than just a career change, it’s a lifestyle change.
Will I be able to do it?
That is a question you will have to answer yourself. It is not unusual to be home sick in the beginning and even when you’ve been on the road for a while. We asked a couple of TransLand professional drivers what life was like right after becoming an OTR driver.
